“A teacher is not the one who teaches, but the one who inspires you to learn, achieve, and become successful.”
Guru is one of the most important parts of everyone's life. There is a big impact of Gurus in our lives in becoming who we are today.
At DIDM, we understand this deeply, and on this auspicious occasion, DIDM celebrates the most valuable contributions of our teachers and mentors who light the path of digital marketing knowledge for our students and guide them on their journey with confidence and motivation.
A guru holds our hand tightly, guiding us step by step until we reach our destination. Each day feels like Guru Purnima to us, thanks to the constant gratitude our students show.
Guru Purnima, also known as Vyasa Purnima, is a significant Hindu festival that is largely celebrated to honor and express gratitude to our gurus, teachers, and mentors.
It falls on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Ashadha (June/July). This year it is celebrated on 21-07-2024. The word ‘Guru’ comes from Sanskrit, where ‘Gu’ means darkness and ‘Ru’ signifies the removal of that darkness.
Guru Purnima is not just a day of reverence for spiritual teachers but a celebration of the profound teacher-student relationship. It is a time to reflect on the importance of mentorship, guidance, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Around 15000 years ago, high up in the Himalayas. There lived a special person, so wise and peaceful that people were drawn to him because of his divinity. He was a yogi, someone very connected to the universe.
Many came to watch him, but only a few stayed to learn from him. These special students were very dedicated and wanted to know everything they knew about life and the universe. After many years of learning, they became as wise as their teacher.
This amazing transformation happened on a full moon night, a very special night. To remember this special day, we celebrate Guru Purnima every year. It’s a day to honor all teachers and show our gratitude for their knowledge.
Guru Purnima is celebrated in many Southeast Asian countries, especially India, Nepal, and Bhutan. Guru Purnima is not only celebrated by Hindus but also Buddhists and Jains celebrate this day with great joy.
The Guru-Shishya (teacher-student) relationship is sacred and essential for learning in life. A guru is enlightened, and a shishya is the lamp to be lighted. Without the knowledge and teachings of the guru, students would be completely lost.
Teachers help us in learning through structured and thorough processes that guide us through the difficulties of life. A guru shows us a way to build our ability with encouragement and knowledge.
A student, no matter how brilliant he is cannot attain full knowledge by his endeavors. It is only possible through the grace and guidance of a guru who can show him the right path to attain true knowledge and enlightenment. This day provides us an opportunity to show our gratitude towards our trainers, and teachers.
Every Hindu shastra has hailed the guru’s importance immeasurably. The Shanda Purana’s Guru Gita says:
“Gurubrahma Guruvishnu Gururdevo Maheshwaraha
Guruhu sakshaat Parambrahman tasmai Shrigurave namaha"
This doha glorifies the guru as Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh (Shiva) as if God is manifesting through him. The Guru shows us the path to God and guides us on our spiritual journey.
Our holy books tell us to respect and serve our teachers like we serve God. They guide us on our life journeys, helping us find our true selves. Let’s honor our gurus on this special day and promise to be good students always.
