In case if you don’t know, Akshaya Tritiya is a highly auspicious festival that gets celebrated all over India and is celebrated by both Hindus and Jains alike.

Every year it comes in the month of April and May and this year in 2023, it arrived on the 22nd of April, 2023.

Aside from Akshaya Tritiya, this day is also called Akhi Teej.

What is people’s belief for this day?

There are numerous beliefs that people associate with themselves on this day.

They believe that if they will start a new business or a new venture on this day then no one can stop it from being successful in their venture.

The word "Akshaya" means "eternal" or "never diminishing," and "Tritiya" refers to the third day of the lunar fortnight.

Significance

The day holds immense significance in Hindu mythology, and there are many stories associated with it.

One such story is that Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi got married on this day. Therefore, it is considered highly auspicious for marriages and other important ceremonies.

Another story related to this day is about the Pandavas, the central characters in the Indian epic, Mahabharata.

According to the legend, on this day, Lord Krishna visited the Pandavas, who were in exile at the time. He brought with him an Akshaya Patra, a magical vessel that would provide an unlimited amount of food.

This vessel helped the Pandavas and their family survive during their exile.

In the Jain community, it is believed that Tirthankara Rishabhanatha broke his year-long fast on this day by consuming sugarcane juice.

Therefore, Jains celebrate Akshaya Tritiya as a day of happiness, prosperity, and abundance.
