Navratri is a festival dedicated to Maa Durga, which is a celebration of faith and belief in the goddess. Nine different forms of Maa Durga are worshipped for nine days during Navratri. For Maa Durga, devotees observe fasting and worship rituals during Navratri. To worship Maa Durga, devotees wear different colored clothes every day. It is said that colors also have special significance in Navratri. Wearing special colored clothes while worshiping nine forms of Maa Durga in nine days is considered extremely auspicious.
NAVRATRI festival usually occurs primarily two times a year: the first time it occurs is during the spring and is known as Chaitra Navratri; the second time it occurs in September-October, which is when it gets coincides with Durga Pooja.
The Festival of Navratri celebrates the victory of Maa Durga over Mahishasura. During Navratri, people perform the Kalash Sthapana pooja, which involves prayers, meditation, and fasting in order to seek the blessings of Maa Durga.
The nine days of Navratri are believed to be a time of deep rest within the soul, and the mind becomes more connected to the body. Furthermore, the body is cleansed of all negative emotions and traits like laziness, ill confidence, etc.
April 2, 2022: Day 1 — Maa Shailputri Puja
Maa Shailputri is the first manifestation of Maa Durga. She rides a bull and holds a Trishul in one hand and a lotus in the other.
April 3, 2022: Day 2 — Maa Brahmacharini Puja
Maa Brahmacharini: She is believed to be an unmarried form of Goddess Parvati.
April 4, 2022: Day 3 — Maa Chandraghanta Puja
Goddess Chandraghanta: Also known as Chandrakhanda, Chandika, or Rannchandi, Goddess Chandraghanta is the third form of Goddess Durga.
April 5, 2022: Day 4 — Maa Kushmanda Puja
Goddess Kushmanda: Worshipped on the fourth day of Navratri, Goddess Kushmanda is believed to have created the Universe with her sweet smile.
April 6, 2022: Day 5 — Maa Skandamata Puja
Goddess Skandmata: She is the fifth avatar of Goddess Durga who is the mother of Kartikeya, who killed the fiery demon, Tarakasura.
April 7, 2022: Day 6 — Maa Katyayani Puja
Goddess Katyayani is the sixth aspect of Goddess Durga who is worshipped as the Warrior Goddess.
April 8, 2022: Day 7 — Maa Kalaratri Puja
Goddess Kaalratri: She is believed to be one of the fiercest forms of Maa Durga and is also referred to as Maa Kaali.
April 9, 2022: Day 8 — Maa Mahagauri Puja
Goddess Mahagauri: The eighth day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Mahagauri who represents purity, calmness, wisdom, and austerity.
April 10, 2022: Day 9 — Maa Siddhidatri Puja, Ram Navami
Goddess Siddhidatri: She is believed to be the Goddess of accomplishment who blesses her devotees with knowledge and wisdom.
April 11, 2022: Day 10 — Navratri Parana
