Every year, on August 15th, India celebrates Independence Day.
It's a special day because it reminds us of when India became free from being ruled by the Britishers.
This day is like a big birthday for our country, and we all come together to show how much we love and appreciate India.
It is a huge moment of pride for us because this year in 2023, we are celebrating the 76th year of freedom.
A long time ago, India was not its own boss.
Another country called Britain was in charge. But brave people like Mahatma Gandhi and many others didn't like this.
They wanted India to be its own leader and make its own decisions.
So, they worked really hard, peacefully asking the British to leave.
Finally, in 1947, the British left, and India became independent.
This means India could make its own rules and decisions.
That's why we celebrate Independence Day – to remember this special moment and the people who made it happen.
Independence Day is a day for celebrating and having fun.
We wake up early and go to special events where the Indian flag is raised high in the air.
Everyone stands up and sings our national anthem proudly.
It's a great feeling of unity and togetherness.
There are also parades and shows where people dance, sing, and perform to show their love for India.
On this day, you'll see many kites flying high, which represents the freedom of our country.
Independence Day is not just about fun; it's also about remembering the heroes who helped us become free.
These heroes were very brave and strong.
They stood up against the British, even when it was tough.
People like Bhagat Singh, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Rani Lakshmibai are our heroes.
We visit special places called memorials to pay respect to these heroes.
We light candles and say thanks to them for making India a better place for us.
On 15 August 2023, India will celebrate its 77th Independence Day, marking 76 years of independence.
"Nation First, Always First" is the theme for this year's celebration as part of the "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav".
Also, this year, the government has decided to implement a number of programs to acknowledge the diversity of the nation's cultures.
The most significant thing, this is the first Independence Day that India is celebrating as the holder of the G20 presidency.
