Significance of Krishna Janmashtami

Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksha every year which falls in the month of Bhadrapada as per the Hindu calendar.

As per the Hindu Mythology, Krishna is considered as the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and he was born over 5,000 years ago in Mathura at midnight. The name of his parents were Devaki and Vasudeva and he was born in the jail of his uncle Kansa who was the king of Mathura at that time.

The reason behind the incarnation of Krishna is to end the reign of King Kansa and for that reason, his uncle tried to kill Krishna at birth but he was safely carried across the Yamuna River to the village of Gokul by his father Vasudeva. Krishna was raised by Yashoda and Nanda in Mathura.

These stories behind this festival make this more spiritual and show us the significance of the victory of good over evil. It tells us how big and powerful evil is, one day it will be defeated for good.

The celebration of Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated over two days and on the first day, devotees have a day-long fast and offer prayers to honor the divine Krishna’s birth at midnight. On the following day, the joyful celebration starts with all the other festivities like decoration and sweets.

How is Janmashtami Celebrated?

The devotees of Krishna celebrate Janmashtami with pure devotion, culture, and festivity. Throughout India, people fast and celebrate the day with full enthusiasm. In Northern India, the day is celebrated with lots of unique sweet dishes like Cholai k Laddu, Panjiri, and more.

The fast is broken after midnight once the worshipping of Krishna at temples is completed. In Janmashtami, families bring a small idol of Krishna, decorate them with beautiful Krishna attires, seat them on swings, and provide them with a lot of sweets as he is in the ‘Baal Roop’.

In various parts of India, the Dahi Handi Event is also celebrated and it is very popular in Maharashtra. This matki or handi is filled with Dahi (Curd), Makhan (Butter), and Flowers and hung this Handi high above the ground where young men and women form a human pyramid and reach to it to break it. This event is a pure display of teamwork, strength, and playful spirit.

Let’s Learn from the Krishna’s Teachings for Digital Marketing

Janmashtami is the festival of celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna with love but it also offers us a time to learn from the teachings of Lord Krishna. We as a digital marketer, should learn and focus on the strategies and execution during the festival as well.

1) Krishna taught us about Dharma his entire life and dharma is right and ethical to be respectful. Like that, you should focus on the right content that does not hurt the sentiments of others and only offers the right things, and positive values.

2) On this festival, everyone celebrates together and welcomes the birth of Krishna. Just like that, we all should use digital platforms to build a community and should focus on the content that brings everybody together. In digital marketing, you should also support each other.

3) In the Bhagwat Gita, Krishna guides us towards a purposeful life, and by learning from it, as a digital marketer, you should ensure that your all efforts should focus on the purpose. Define your purpose first, and then use the right strategies to reach it. Your purpose should be the heart of your whole digital marketing campaign.

Our Wishes to you!

As we celebrate Janmashtami 2024, let us remember the teachings of Krishna and celebrate the occasion of life and love with pure divinity.

From all of us at the Delhi Institute of Digital Marketing (DIDM), we wish you a very Happy Janmashtami. May the teachings of Lord Krishna guide you on the right path and take you towards your ultimate goal.
