Every year on October 2nd we celebrate the birth anniversary of one of our greatest leaders Mr Lal Bahadur Shastri who is our country’s second prime minister. 

Lal Bahadur Shastri's legacy is so deeply rooted in our hearts. He is known for his enormous dedication to the nation and his values of simplicity, humility, and commitment to education.

Lal Bahadur Shastri ji was a firm believer in the transformative power of education and he always motivated everyone to acquire education to overcome the barriers of several difficulties in life.

Significance of Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti

Lal Bahadur Shastri was born on October 2nd, 1904 in Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh. He was very keen to learn and to gain knowledge. He walks miles to attend school and sometimes even swims across rivers to reach his school.

Shastri ji graduated from Kashi Vidyapeeth and here he earned the title ‘Shastri’ as a mark of his deep knowledge of philosophy and ethics. His entire journey is a testament to how to overcome difficulties and how commitment can break any barrier.

Shastri’s Jayanti is not only celebrated to remember his greatest achievements but also to spread awareness about the values of knowledge and what he believes in for India. He had the vision to shape India into a modern India through leadership during challenging times like the Indo-Pak War in 1965. 

Even during his leadership he promoted self-reliance in agriculture through the Green Revolution and gave his mantra “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”.
